Professional Development

Our professional development workshops provide early childhood and elementary educators with inspirational, engaging activities to take back to their classrooms!

Educators explore the museum during professional development just as their students would on a field trip to make connections between classroom lessons and real-world concepts!

MCM Workshops

Workshop Information:

  • Each workshop is 5 hours long, 9 am – 2 pm, with an hour lunch break.
  • Each workshop counts as .5 continuing education units (CEUs) or 5 hours for childcare workers.
  • Each workshop is $30 (plus an additional $10 for CEU credits).
  • We offer professional development workshops on-site at the museum at various times throughout the years. Please refer to this page or email monique@mcm.ms for specific dates and workshop descriptions.
  • All professional development workshops are available for off-site presentations.

Computer Science Wonder

Computer Science (CS) Wonder is project funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services geared toward training and supporting educators in teaching computer science skills to their students.

MCM has partnered with Mississippi State University’s Department of Cyber Education to offer training in coding, robotics, and digital literacy.


What will CS Wonder do?

  • Encourage connection between educators and tech industry professionals
  • Provide intensive STEAM training for teachers
  • Supply a comprehensive kit of materials along with ongoing support for their use within classrooms
  • Reach students who ordinarily would not have access to these kids of state of the art resources
  • Provide hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences for students to actively practice higher-level technology skills and increase their digital fluency
  • Raise students’ awareness of the possibilities that exist in STEAM fields
  • Provide hands-on lessons and model how to effectively engage students in open-ended exploration
