Harry Potter’s Birthday
Join us at the museum on July 25th from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm to celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday! On MCM’s most magical day, we invite witches and wizards from all over to join us for this enchanting event at the Mississippi Children’s Museum!
Get Back-to-School ready – Hogwarts style! Start your journey by sorting into your Hogwart’s House, then step inside the atrium and let the magic of the museum guide you through the rest…
ALL-DAY ACTIVITIES:
- Sorting Hat | Atrium: Grab your magic card and reveal your Hogwarts House!
- Divination | Measurement Rules: Create a time capsule to open at the end of the school year. Record your height, hand size, favorite things, and add a photo to see how you changed over the year!
- House Cup Challenge | Atrium: Visit activities to earn points & compete for your House! At the end of your visit, add your points to the House Cup. The winner will be announced after the event ends!
- Defense Against the Dark Arts | Atrium: Voldemort has left his Horcruxes all over the museum, and we need your help to find them! In Defense Against the Dark Arts, you will follow a scavenger hunt and destroy all the Horcruxes!
- Ollivander’s Wand Shop | Welty Porch: Science is magic! Learn about circuitry and use your skills to create a wand that really lights up!
- Flourish & Blotts | Library: Visit our library to make House-themed bookmarks to use in your spell-books this school year!
- Eeylops Owl Emporium | MCM’s Trading Post: Adopt your own Hedwig from our Trading Post. Decorate your owl’s cage and fill out an official adoption certificate. (Additional purchase required.)
- Professor Umbridge’s Cat Plates | WonderBox: Take a look at Professor Umbridge’s cat plates upstairs in the Atrium and then head down to WonderBox to create your own!
TIMED ACTIVITIES:
- 10:00am | Herbology: In Herbology class, you will learn all about plant care and create a chia pet to take home. (Enchanted Land of Story)
- 11:00am | Astronomy: Use our 3D pens to create a model of the solar system, a constellation, or dream up your own planet! (WonderBox Exhibit)
- 12:00pm | Transfiguration: Slime is a non-Newtonian fluid—it transforms in strange and interesting ways. Join us for Transfiguration class and learn how slime works! (WonderBox Exhibit)
- 1:00pm | Potions: For our Potions class we will focus on self-care by creating a Butterbeer scented lip scrub to take home. (WonderBox Exhibit)
- 2:00pm | Charms: It’s almost back-to-school time, so join us for Charms class to create a Harry Potter themed Shrinkydink keychain to wear on your backpack! (WonderBox Exhibit)
Costumes are encouraged. All adults must be accompanied by a child, and vice versa.
