Visiting Artist: Suzanna Ritz

July 14th, 2016

This month’s Visiting Artist, Suzanna Ritz, helped children create their own 3D landscapes using tissue paper, newspaper, and cardboard rolls. Ritz is a New Orleans artist currently working at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.

To make their sculptures, she encouraged children to create structures with cardboard, newspaper, and tape before layering their projects with tissue paper and glue.

Children were able to mix glitter into the glue for extra texture and appearance. Children created tall buildings, lakes, volcanoes, mountains, and everything in between.

Ritz’s workshop also encouraged adults to help, as well! Many parents taped down newspaper and assisted in the gluing process.

MCM’s Visiting Artist program is supported in part by funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
