Mississippi Children's Museum

Reopening Information

To our MCM Family & Supporters,

On behalf of the MCM board of directors and staff, please accept my heartfelt gratitude to our generous community for the countless ways MCM has been supported during the challenges of the past several months.  Increased safety and cleaning protocols have enabled the museum to host successful day camps all summer.

Based on requests from our education community and local needs, we are planning to adjust our operating hours and close to the public on weekdays (Tuesday – Friday) after Labor Day and focus on a new direct services initiative, Launch into Learning, for elementary school age children and their families.  We are open as usual for visitors and lots of fun on Saturdays and Sundays for the fall school semester!

Launch into Learning at MCM will continue through the fall semester and there are still limited spaces available.  We have a multi-tiered approach that will allow us to serve the maximum number of students possible while still following local guidelines and maintaining social distance.  Our focus on fun, outdoor play and hands on learning will connect with a focus on STEM training, homework tutoring, and a varied curriculum to assist students in retaining critical skills in literacy and math taught by members of MCM’s education staff.

To accommodate safely as many requests as possible, MCM will provide three models of programming:

  • Tutoring Services: MCM will implement scheduled, weekly tutoring sessions at the museum in the subjects of STEM, literacy, and math for students in PreK4 through 5th grade.
  • After-School Services: The MCM After-School Program will take place daily and serve PreK4 through 5th grade students once the virtual portion of their school day is complete.
  • Day Camp Services: Modeled after our popular summer camps, MCM’s Launch into Learning Day Camp will serve PreK4 through 5th grade students and take place on Monday through Friday during regular school hours.  The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity to have each student’s official distance learning facilitated by experienced educators in a safe and fun environment.

If your family needs one of these services this fall semester, we would love to help you!  Reserve your spot as soon as possible because spaces are limited.

Gratefully,

Susan E. Garrard

President and CEO
