DESCRIPTION:Spring Chess Tournament \nJoin us on Saturday\, March 22 for the Mississippi Children’s Museum – Meridian’s Spring Chess Tournament!  \nSince school and community chess programs have been created and revitalized\, the 1500-year-old game has seen a resurgence in Mississippi. These tournaments are an important opportunity for children in Mississippi to exercise not only their skills but self-confidence. A growing body of research indicates that playing chess improves students’ problem-solving and critical thinking skills\, which directly translates to their math\, science\, and reading scores. \nUnrated Divisions:\n\nK-2\nK-4\nK-7\nK-12\n\nRated Divisions: (All Ages Welcome)\n\nU500\nU900\nOPEN\n\nFees:\n\n$20 Entry Fee for Tournament Participants (For both MCM Members & Non-Members)\n$5 for Each Accompanying Adult/Child (Free for MCM Members)\nAll entry fees increase by $5 for day-of registrants\nAll entry fees include access to all museum exhibits for the day\n\n*Children must be accompanied by an adult! \nPre-registration is recommended & appreciated. Check-in and on-site registration will be available from 9 AM – 10 AM. Online Registration closes on March 19. Walk-ins on Saturday are welcome if capacity allows! \nRounds:\nFirst Round starts at 10:30 AM  \n\nUnrated: 5 Rounds SS\, G/25+5 (No Eliminations)\nRated: 4 Rounds SS\, G/30+10 (No Eliminations)\nChess sets (board/pieces/clocks) will be provided for use during the tournament.\nTrophies will be awarded to the Top 3 players in each division.\n\nAwards: \n\nMedals will be awarded to the Top 3 Players in each Division\nTiebreaks by computer calculation\n\nIf you have questions regarding the tournament or need more information\, please email beththrasher@msscholasticchess.org or call 601-941-5153. \nAdditional information also available at www.MSscholasticChess.org \nRegister Here\n\n
