SUMMARY:Scholastic Individual Grade Level Chess Championships
DESCRIPTION:2025 MSCA Scholastic Individual Grade Level Chess Championships\nJoin us for the Mississippi Children’s Museum’s Chess Championship on October 4\, 2025! \nSince school and community chess programs have been created and revitalized\, the 1500-year-old game has seen a resurgence in Mississippi. These tournaments are an important opportunity for children in Mississippi to not only exercise their skills\, but self-confidence. A growing body of research indicates that playing chess improves students’ problem solving and critical thinking skills\, which directly translates to their math\, science and reading scores. \nUnrated Sections:\nUnrated Divisions will play 5 Rounds SS\, G/25+5 \n\nKindergarten\n1st Grade\n2nd Grade\n3rd Grade\n4th Grade\n5th Grade\n\nRated Divisions:\nRated Divisions will play 4 Rounds SS\, G/40+5. Players in these divisions must have USChess Membership. Membership sign-ups will be available on-site and on their website. \n\n6th Grade\n7th Grade\n8th Grade\n9th Grade\n10th Grade\n11th Grade\n12th Grade\n\nRegistration Fees:\n\n$30 Entry Fee for Tournament Participants until October 1st (For both MCM Members & Non-Members). Please note that on-site day of registration is $40. \n$8 for Each Accompanying Adult/Child (Free for MCM Members). Please note that on-site day of registration for accompanying Adult/Child is $13. \nAll fees will increase for day-of participants.\nAll entry fees include access to all museum exhibits for the duration of the event\n\nPre-registration is recommended & appreciated. Check-in and on-site registration will be available from 8:15am – 9:15am. Walk-ins are welcome! Please note that seats are limited and available on a first-come\, first-served basis\, so we highly recommend pre-registering. \nRounds:\n\nFirst Round starts at 9:30am\nChess sets (board/pieces/clocks) will be provided for use during the tournament.\nTiebreaks for first place or Top Girl (Rated or Unrated) will be determined by two G/3+2 games to be played at the end of the last round. With a tie of three or four players\, a single round robin of G/3+2 will be played. In the event of a tie from the blitz games\, Armageddon match(es) draw odds for black determined by bid.\n\nAwards:\n\n“Top Girl” in rated & unrated divisions.\n“Biggest Upset” in all rated divisions\nRated & Unrated Divisions: Trophies awarded to 1st – 3rd place winners.
