DESCRIPTION:Scholastic Chess Tournament \nJoin us on Saturday\, April 15\, 2023 for the Mississippi Children’s Museum – Meridian’s Scholastic Chess Tournament!  \nSince school and community chess programs have been created and revitalized\, the 1500-year-old game has seen a resurgence in Mississippi. These tournaments are an important opportunity for children in Mississippi to exercise not only their skills but self-confidence. A growing body of research indicates that playing chess improves students’ problem-solving and critical thinking skills\, which directly translates to their math\, science\, and reading scores. \nDivisions: \n\nK-3 Unrated\nK-5 Unrated\nK-8 Unrated\nK-12 Unrated\nU800 Rated (all ages welcome)\nOPEN Rated (all ages welcome)\n\nFees: \n\n$20 Entry Fee for Tournament Participants (For both MCM Members & Non-Members)\n$5 for Each Accompanying Adult/Child (Free for MCM Members)\nAll entry fees include access to all museum exhibits for the day\n\nPre-registration is recommended & appreciated. Check-in and on-site registration will be available from 9 AM – 10 AM. Learn. series was founded through a collaboration between Center for Advancement of Youth and the Junior League of Jackson. This educational learning series is geared towards helping parents and caregivers understand the complex mind of a child.  This program presents a wonderful opportunity for the community to learn more about the pressing issues and needs that children and families face from experts in the field. \n\nThis free educational series is open to the community. \nDinner will be provided (first-come\, first-served).\nChildcare is available for ages 3-10. \nChildren will be allowed to play in the museum with supervision provided by members of the Junior League of Jackson while parents attend the program.\nDinner is from 5:30-6:00 and the presentation is from 6:00-7:15\n\nPlay.
