DESCRIPTION:Scholastic Chess Tournament \nJoin us on Saturday\, April 15\, 2023 for the Mississippi Children’s Museum – Meridian’s Scholastic Chess Tournament!  \nSince school and community chess programs have been created and revitalized\, the 1500-year-old game has seen a resurgence in Mississippi. These tournaments are an important opportunity for children in Mississippi to exercise not only their skills but self-confidence. A growing body of research indicates that playing chess improves students’ problem-solving and critical thinking skills\, which directly translates to their math\, science\, and reading scores. \nDivisions: \n\nK-3 Unrated\nK-5 Unrated\nK-8 Unrated\nK-12 Unrated\nU800 Rated (all ages welcome)\nOPEN Rated (all ages welcome)\n\nFees: \n\n$20 Entry Fee for Tournament Participants (For both MCM Members & Non-Members)\n$5 for Each Accompanying Adult/Child (Free for MCM Members)\nAll entry fees include access to all museum exhibits for the day\n\nPre-registration is recommended & appreciated. Check-in and on-site registration will be available from 9 AM – 10 AM. Walk-ins on Saturday are welcome if capacity allows! \nRounds: \nFirst Round starts at 10:30 AM  \n\nEveryone will play in 5 Swiss-paired\, G/25+5.
