DESCRIPTION:Pawns N’ Pajamas\nJoin us for the Mississippi Children’s Museum’s Pawns N’ Pajamas Chess Tournament on Friday\, September 20\, 2024! Participants are encouraged to come dressed in their coziest pajamas. \nSince school and community chess programs have been created and revitalized\, the 1500-year-old game has seen a resurgence in Mississippi. These tournaments are an important opportunity for children in Mississippi to not only exercise their skills\, but self-confidence. A growing body of research indicates that playing chess improves students’ problem solving and critical thinking skills\, which directly translates to their math\, science and reading scores. \nDivisions:\n\nK-2 Unrated\nK-4 Unrated\nK-7 Unrated\nK-12 Unrated\n\nRegistration Fees\n\n$15 Entry Fee for Tournament Participants (For both MCM Members & Non-Members)\n$8 for Each Accompanying Adult/Child (Free for MCM Members)\nAll entry fees include access to all museum exhibits for the duration of the event\nAll fees increase by $5 for day-of registrants\n\nPre-registration is recommended & appreciated. Check-in and on-site registration will be available from 5:00pm – 5:30pm. Walk-ins are welcome! Please note that seats are limited and available on a first-come\, first-served basis\, so we highly recommend pre-registering. \nRounds:\nFirst Round starts at 5:30pm | Awards announced at 7:30pm \n\nEveryone will play in 4 rounds\, G/10+3.
